Darfur Social Cohesion Index 2030
A composite index of four variables that raise it and one that lowers it, as set out in the Institute’s strategy. Pick a variable to see what it measures.
Horizontal trust
Trust between neighbours and between groups: whether people deal with, rely on and live alongside those from other communities.
- Trust in neighbours from other groups
- Inter-group marriage, markets and sport
- Spread of identity-based rumours
What the strategy promised, and where we stand
Five quantitative goals we track in public. The baseline is filled after the first annual survey.
The Observatory is built with you
Two ways to contribute: an observation about an event or initiative in your area, or a quick five-question cohesion pulse. The Institute reviews every contribution before publishing or counting it.
Public contributions after review
Published without identifying details, with the verification status the Institute reached.
WhatsApp rumour that a shared water source was poisoned
Food distribution resumes at a shelter after a two-week halt
Reports of armed movements near a weekly market
Youth from two groups restart monthly football matches

From contribution to index: five steps
- 01 Receipt Each contribution gets a tracking code, with no data on the sender’s device or location.
- 02 Screening The team removes names and anything that could identify or endanger a person.
- 03 Verification At least two independent sources from the field peer network, partners and universities.
- 04 Status Verified, being verified, or unconfirmed. Unconfirmed items are labelled, not deleted.
- 05 Publish and count Published in aggregate at locality level after at least 72 hours, feeding early warning and rapid surveys.
