What we fund

Money where recovery begins

The Fund supports groups led by local people, with small, flexible grants that arrive quickly.

Emergency rooms and community kitchens Takaya kitchens, medical evacuation, repairing water and power lines.
Women’s groups and solidarity funds Local mutual-aid funds run by women, and protection and support initiatives.
Mediation and peace committees Ajaweed mediators, farmer–herder committees, shared-market initiatives.
Livelihoods and cooperatives Joint farming and herding cooperatives, shared assets for displaced and host communities.
Water and energy at shared points Water harvesting and solar wells at points shared by more than one community.
Areas are drawn from the Darfur 2030 strategy and Issue 1 papers; the Fund’s board sets each round’s priorities.
How it works

Four principles

  1. 01 Flexible funding, fewer barriersSimple applications, including voice notes, and fast disbursement for local needs.
  2. 02 The triple nexusEvery grant serves relief, recovery and cohesion together, not one isolated track.
  3. 03 Commitment beyond one yearWe aim for multi-year grants, because trust is not rebuilt in a single emergency cycle.
  4. 04 Maximum flexibility when things worsenIf security deteriorates, funding goes directly to emergency rooms, women’s groups and local mediators.

1 Our group works inside Darfur, or with displaced people and refugees from Darfur.
2 The group is led by local people, or they share in its decisions.
3 We already run an activity, however small.
4 We can name at least two people responsible for the money.
5 We can send a simple report after spending (receipts, or photos that do not show beneficiaries’ faces).
6 Our group is not affiliated with an armed actor or a political party.

How we decide

  1. 01 Expression of interest One page or a voice note: who you are, what you do, and what you need.
  2. 02 Verification A call or visit through a trusted local partner, without exposing the group to anyone.
  3. 03 Decision The grants committee decides within four weeks of verification and explains any rejection.
  4. 04 Disbursement and reporting Paid in instalments, with a simple report after each one.
Grants

Who we have funded

Round 1, August 2026: three grassroots initiatives in South, Central and East Darfur. Alongside the grant, each received technical support to build its structure and governance documents, and signed a Community Cohesion Plan.

Details of funded initiatives

Initiative names, exact locations, beneficiary numbers per initiative and their stories are available to access-code holders, to protect the teams working on the ground. After verification we give each donor, partner or researcher its own code.

Cohesion barometer before and after 26 of the 32 beneficiaries completed both questionnaires. The political decline likely reflects the sensitivity of political questions and growing awareness of rights: respondents became more open and more critical. Political empowerment, inclusivity and trust in local leadership need continued attention.
Initiatives are not named publicly, to protect their teams. Grant amounts are published in the round report.
